Almonte Fibre Fest 2022

Judy McMullan / 0 Comments / News / almonte, festival, fibre vendor, ottawa /

We received this news about the upcoming Almonte (near Ottawa) FibreFest:

This year the Almonte Fibrefest will be returning as an in-person event. To reassure visitors and maintain a healthy festival space for all, we will have more space between vendor/demonstrator booths at the venue, and will continue to offer virtual, as well as regular in-person workshops. And while masks are no longer mandatory, they are definitely an option for visitors who would like to wear one. Are you a fibre/textile artisan? Space is available for vendor and workshop applications. Visit almontefibrefest.ca for details on how to apply.

Stitch in Public! Update

Judy McMullan / 0 Comments / News / Guelph, park, stitch in public /

Stitch in Public logo

Here is another chance for you to get together with other stitchers. It’s National Stitch-in-Public Day as declared by the Embroiderers’ Association of Canada. Every year it is the last Saturday in September and that makes it September 25th this year (2021).

CEGG will reprise our gathering from World Embroidery Day. We’ve been looking at the weather forecast for Stitch-in-Public Day and it looks like it may rain. Let’s go to Riverside Park in Guelph, instead. The park can be accessed from the entrance with the stone pillars on Woolwich Street or from Marilyn Drive.
There are 2 covered picnic areas in the park (not counting the Concession stand). The larger picnic area has a red/brown sort of roof (DMC 3778). It’s on the ring road between the playground and the Enabling Garden. There is a good parking lot there, too. Sat Sept 25th, 10 am to noon. Bring a lawn chair if you wish (there are picnic tables) and dress warmly.

And if you, dear reader, do not live near Guelph please find a nice park or a mall or your own front yard and stitch in public!

World Embroidery Day July 30th

Let’s celebrate that! The tenth annual World Embroidery Day falls on a Friday this year. Yes, it’s right before the long weekend but you aren’t starting your long weekend until the evening, are you? Come join us in the morning at Exhibition Park in Guelph. Bring something to stitch. Bring a lawn chair and a drink. We can keep our distance as there is plenty of space. Exhibition is a big park. I propose meeting at the entrance near Kathleen Street and Tipperary Place. There is good parking and we’ll have both shade and sun. Drop in anytime on Friday July 30th from 10 am to noon.

(Our next chance will be on “Stitch in Public” day on the last Saturday in September.)

Bugs!

Our current challenge is “Covid Bugs”. The Covid part refers to our circumstances due to the pandemic. The Bugs part is to let your imagination go into fantasy, reality or inspiration from your stash.

As our display will be totally online, there are no size restrictions.

Create a bug and take a photo/photo(s) of your finished project. The creations from the challenge will be shown at our online meeting in January.

Changes for 2020-21

Judy McMullan / 0 Comments / News /

Reluctantly, we have made the decision to forego classes for the 2020-2021 year. Thus we have reduced our membership fees for the year to $40 for all types of members.

Our postponed Annual General Meeting will take place via Zoom on Tuesday September 15th at 10 am. As a treat, we will be having the Brown Bag Challenge Great Reveal at the meeting. Cathy Lysnes will bring us up to date on our financial position. We also have a few Executive positions to vote on.

If you have not used Zoom before, you might want to test it out on Tuesday Sept 1 at 10 am when Catherine will be hosting a meeting just for you to try it out. If you are already a member of the Guild, you will have received the information you need to join the meeting in your newsletter. If you are not yet a member but want to attend, please email us and we’ll send you the credentials you’ll need.

We also plan to meet once a month, via Zoom, with something of interest.

Tues Oct 20th will be a talk on Crazy Quilting by Judy Eckhardt.
Tues Nov 17th will be a Christmas project.
Tues Dec 1st will be another Christmas project.

All the meetings above will start at 10 am.

March Update

Judy McMullan / 0 Comments / News / covid-19 / /

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce the cancellation of all remaining CEGG meetings for the rest of our fiscal year, ending April 30th. This includes classes, workshop, AGM and Open House. Your executive team has made this decision in response to health advice to limit group meetings as a deterrent to the spread of Covid-19.

If you have borrowed library books or magazines, please put them in a safe place and plan to return them when we resume.
If you paid for the April 9th workshop with Donna Funnell, you will be getting a full refund.

On Sept.15th, we plan to have a combined AGM, pot luck lunch, and Registration. Please stay tuned for further details.

Open House, our year-end show, will sadly not happen this year. But do save your projects for display at a 2-year Mega-Open House in 2021. It’s a great time to finish those UFO’s!

The St.Jacob’s Quilt Show, where we display our work, is still currently scheduled for May 26th but subject to change. [this is now cancelled -Ed]

Our website cegguelph.ca will be updated as we progress during this uncertain time.

“We pull together by staying apart.” Happy nesting and best wishes to you all. Have a wonderful stitch-full summer!

Renata Georgeff, President
