Our Guild will be having our own Open House show on 16 April. As well as the April show, we will also be hosting the display of works for the Ontario Network of Needleworkers. The ONN consists of several groups of stitchers from across the province. So you’ll have a chance to see what other groups are doing, as well. This show will be at our usual venue of Kortright Presbyterian Church, 55 Devere Dr in Guelph. It will be Saturday 4 May from noon – 4 pm. Free admission!

CHALLENGES During 2019-2020 we had an ongoing Brown Bag Challenge. In 2020, President Mavis Brown issued a Fanciful Face Mask Challenge. In January of 2021 Mavis introduced the Covid Bug Challenge (or any bug). Later in 2021, Mavis issued the Spring Fling Challenge.
ONLINE While we were meeting online, we participated in a number of smaller projects. Embroidered Mouse with Ana-Maria Kramer Little Landscapes with Alison Jackson Brooch with Pat Menary/Jay online Christmas workshops in Nov 2020 were Dove of Peace, Large Ornament, Roses & Noel ornament, Christmas Box Bauble, With My Heart ornament, Starbursts and Baubles ornament. The Christmas Workshop in Nov 2021 was the 3D tetrahedron Ornament by Elfrieda Jackson (with poinsettas on it), the swoopy Christmas Tree and the felt angel.

Our website had an unwelcome vacation for the last 3 months but we are back! Your webmaster will take a couple of weeks to do some updating.
Our next big event is our Open House and Display of Work! It will be Tuesday April 18 from 1-5 pm. What will you see? Works from our recent classes; works from our online classes which took place during the pandemic; other pieces which our busy fingers have done on our own. That’s 3 pent up years of art ready to be displayed!

The Embroiderers’ Association of Canada has declared the last Saturday in September to be National Stitch-in-Public Day. That will be Sat Sept 24th, this year. While our Guild is not a member of the EAC, we are all in favour of stitching! So, you are encouraged to bring your work to the park or the mall or even your own front yard and let others see your love of embroidery! Have fun!
We are a small group, looking to hold a seminar for new (or previous) students of Japanese Embroidery in Ontario. This style of embroidery uses lustrous flat silk and metallic threads on Silk fabrics to create traditional designs (please see the photos below) . The Royal School of Needlework, in England, has released their summer online programs specifically timed for the Americas: 10 am-4 pm EST. There are 2, 3 and 5 day classes offered for both beginners and experienced stitchers during July and August. Find out more at royal-needlework.org.uk/courses/international-summer-school-2022.
We received this news about the upcoming Almonte (near Ottawa) FibreFest:
This year the Almonte Fibrefest will be returning as an in-person event. To reassure visitors and maintain a healthy festival space for all, we will have more space between vendor/demonstrator booths at the venue, and will continue to offer virtual, as well as regular in-person workshops. And while masks are no longer mandatory, they are definitely an option for visitors who would like to wear one. Are you a fibre/textile artisan? The Guelph Arts Council is happy to announce that Art on the Street has returned for 2022! Artists each have a booth at the festival (cost ranges from $100-$150) for the 2 day event on Sat & Sun June 25 & 26. Yes, Fibre art is most welcome! There are also awards for Best in Show, People’s Choice, etc. This is a juried show. For details, see the Guelph Arts Council website.
